Open Word

Let’s start Word right away by double clicking on it. Word is part of the Office suite. We will use for Word 365 for the demo.

To launch Word, or any other application, simply double click on it.

When you open Word, you are presented with a home page

From here you can either:

• Open an empty document.
• Open recent files. These are files that have been recently opened.
• Or New in the left side menu.

By clicking on new (left sidebar), you can access many document templates. We have for example, calendars, brochures, menus, cover letters and of course CVs. These templates are perfect for making a CV.

In the top right-hand corner, you can search more precisely for the template you want. In our case, we are looking for CVs. So by typing CV in the search menu (top right) you automatically filter the content.

You can choose any CV that best suits your identity. In this example, we will  use the ‘Simple, clean CV, designed by MOO’ template.

Once you have selected your CV template, simply double click on it to open it.

The template only represents the structure. Now you have to fill in the content with your biography.

Simply double click on the content you wish to modify.

You can fully adapt this structure to your life experience. You can add as many lines as you like about your education, experience or passions.

Don’t forget to add the information that makes you different, for example: your language skills, interests, passions and so on. To do this, just add them afterwards using the pre-defined template.

Your CV is done and it wasn’t too difficult. Now let’s find out how to personalise it a bit.

Insert a photo

To give your CV a bit of character, the first thing to do is to insert a photo. Indeed it is very important for an employer to be able to represent you. To insert a photo, position your cursor where you want to insert it by clicking on the precise spot. Then choose in the top menu “Insert” > Images and then > either: Image from a file… / Online images… / Photo browser… etc.

In this example we will choose “Image from file…” as our profile picture has been stored in a file. Simply navigate to the file where the photo is located, select it and then click on insert

Once you have inserted the photo, you need to adjust its size so that it fits exactly where you want it. To do this, simply click in one of the corners of the image, hold the pressure and move the cursor until you have the desired format.

You can also change the colour scheme completely. To do this, go to: Design – Colours and choose the colour scheme that best suits your personality.

Here are the main improvements over iOS 14 and together we will find out how to use them.

FaceTime

Despite the fact that “SharePlay” doesn’t come with the initial iOS15 release, FaceTime does have some nice updates. The main update is the ability to create a link to a FaceTime call that you can send to Windows and Android users.

They can join the call using the web browser.

There are also new audio features to help the phone better differentiate between the person speaking and background sounds.

Despite these new features, we do not believe that FaceTime will be able to replace Zoom. However, iOS 15 does make it much easier to use FaceTime for occasional calls with multiple participants.

Focus a new iOS exciting feature

This is an improved version of the “Do not disturb” function. The focus modes allow you to define which application or person can send you messages at specific times. The idea is always to limit sources of distraction or stimulation.

Focus allows you to avoid notifications during periods of concentration. This prevents distraction during periods of intense production. For example, during working hours, you may not want to receive Facebook notifications.

Conversely, during holiday periods, you may want to disconnect from your work. So Concentration allows you to have a “Time to Yourself” mode that turns off notifications from slack, work email… In short, all the notifications that could bring us back to work.

Safari in the new iOS15

There is one change that will impact all iPhone owners. It’s the Safari update. The browser is being redesigned across all Apple devices. This is the biggest visual change.

At Declix, we love these changes. The default view is still one page, but this time the URL bar is placed at the bottom of the screen. This makes it easy to navigate from one open tab to another. If you prefer the old style you can easily go back to this configuration in your settings.

Privacy

The new iOS 15 focuses on better privacy. Here are the settings to change immediately to take advantage of these improvements.

Blocking email trackers

Apple has a new mail privacy protection that prevents email senders from seeing your IP address and when you open your emails. This is important especially for marketing emails. However, the privacy protection is not enabled by default. So you need to go to :

• Settings
• Mail
• Privacy protection
• Make suite it is enabled. (green).

Hiding your IP address

Apple offers us the possibility of masking our IP address. This means that the websites we browse cannot turn an IP address into an ID. Indeed, this identifier would allow them to connect all our navigation.

So to hide the IP address, you have to go to :

Settings > Safari > Hide IP address, then activate the checkbox for trackers and websites.

Find out what the applications do

Apple has added an application privacy report. To activate it, just click on :

Settings > Privacy >Register app activity.

This report will give you an overview of the sensors that applications have used on your device. So you will know which application has connected to your microphone, camera, photos, contacts,  during a 7 day period and how often.

Protecting your navigation

For those with an iCloud subscription, Apple offers its most advanced privacy options.

• Apple offers iCloud Private Relay. A VPN-like service that routes your web traffic through multiple servers and thus preserves the privacy of your location. Your web traffic is routed in 2 directions. Therefore no one can know what you are looking at online, including Apple.

To activate Private Relay you need :

Settings >iCloud >Private Relay to ensure that it is enabled.

Apple also offers for paying iCloud customers the option to “Hide my email address”. This means that for sites where you want to register without your personal data, Apple generates random email addresses.

Weather
The application has a new design and new animations.

Memojis are becoming even more personal. You can now dress them up.

Health app allows you to share your data with family members.

Spotlight has become more powerful with more detail when searching for contacts, movies, etc. You can also search for your own photos and applications.

Maps will be even more powerful with more detail and augmented reality.

Messages reorganises its photo uploads so that you can easily see them. For photos sent simultaneously.

Siri would be more secure than before. Because your audio never leaves your device.

Conclusion

iOS15 has many changes that we are looking forward to putting discovering. However, it’s not a complete makeover either, but simply an evolution towards more security, privacy and better management of your connected time.

Save a document

To begin with we will:

• Open or write a Word document.

• Save this document to its folders. In this case, we will save it on the desktop.
  • Write the document.
  • To save the document, click on “File” and then “Save”.

A new window will open in which you will have to: give the file a name.

Choose the location of the save. Here it is the desktop.

Finally, simply click on save. This way your document is saved where you want it.

In what format are the documents saved?

When you save a document you have created, it will be saved by default in the format of the software you have used. For example, if you create a document in Word, by default it will be saved as .docx.
If you save a document in PowerPoint, it will be in .pptx, in Excel in .xlsx. Whatever the software, Office, Open Source, the Adobe suite, these save by default in the format of the program. These formats allow you to modify the document and work on it.

Why convert to pdf?

To understand pdf, it is a file format that allows you to preserve the characteristics of a document. Basically, this means that once a file is saved as a pdf you cannot change it.

How to convert into pdf?

To convert into pdf, simply open your document. The document can be in word, powerpoint, Excel, Open Source, whatever.

Here we will see how to convert a Word document into a pdf. So you need to:

• Open the document you wish to convert.
• Then click on “File” > “Save as…”.

As explained above we can convert files of any format to pdf. Below we will look at some examples.

The procedure is similar to that of Word. So from the file you can either “Save as”.

The other solution is to export it. We are finding this alternative more and more. Even in some software we have the option to export directly to pdf without going through “Save as…”.

So just give it a name, choose the location in the left-hand column, the file format and simply export it.

To save an Excel file as a pdf the procedure is exactly the same as with word. Just click on “Save as…”

So you will find exactly the same procedure as for Word or Powerpoint.

In many programs, such as Open Office Writer, you have the option to “export as pdf”.

Hence, you will know how to adapt to the software in order to either go through the “Save as…” or “Export” procedure or directly “Export to pdf”.

• First of all you have to open the chrome browser by double clicking on the icon.

• By clicking on the “Plus” button a window opens and there you have the option to select “NewIncognito Window”.

• Selecting “New Incognito Window” automatically opens a new window. This new window is black with the Chrome “Incognito” icon and an information message about browsing in private mode.

From then on, you can surf the web without leaving any traces.

To make sure you are in private mode, you will find the famous “Incognito” icon in the top right corner of Chrome.

To exit incognito mode and return to “standard” navigation, simply close the open window. You can do this either by simply closing the open tab or the private mode web page.

If you open several pages in private mode, you will be able to see the number of open pages in the top right corner next to the “Incognito” icon.

To close all these pages, you just have to close them one by one. Let us specify that a web page is different from a tab. In a web page, we can have several tabs open. As you can see in the image below.

So why not always browse in incognito mode? Unfortunately private mode does not mean that you are invisible to advertisers. Indeed, your IP address remains visible to everyone. So your internet service provider, Google, the websites you visited can still track your browsing.

So you might ask, what’s the point? Incognito mode is used to clear cookies, keep your browsing history private and open multiple sessions simultaneously.

FaceTime to get much better

Now you can use FaceTime with your friends on Android. This will be possible thanks to the support of FaceTime on the web. Your friends will be able to access the call via links. It will also allow you to schedule invitations.

You can also organise visionary and/or listening parties with your friends. You can also share your screen to surf the web together.

There will also be new audio features to help you hear better. Apple offers its own version of “Surround Sound”

In the US, your iPhone could soon be used as an ID

In collaboration with some airports, Apple is working to enable the iPhone to store confidential information such as driving licences and identification. Simply scan the information and it will be encrypted and stored on your device.

Improving privacy

By default, Apple will hide your IP address in Safari and Apple Mail. In addition, there will be the option to block tracking pixels.

In addition, similar privacy controls will be available to Apple users who subscribe to the premium version of iCloud (iCloud +). This will allow them to hide their destination and location in their browser. Apple achieves this protection by routing encrypted web traffic through two separate internet relays.

Siri will also become more secure by doing most of the audio processing directly on the device. So your data stays on your phone.

The next MacOS: Monterey

The goal of this next version is synergy between devices. Monterey will bring ultra-simple multi-monitor setups through “universal control”. This new feature will allow users to place their iPad next to a Mac to make it a second monitor. The keyboard and mouse will also work on both devices.

iOs 15 and macOS Monterey will allow you to use AirPlay to stream audio or video content from your phone or iPad to your Mac or MacBook. It’s not a huge change but it will be very useful.

Apple will use artificial intelligence to read the text in your photos

This will be terribly useful for recognising a phone number and immediately clicking on it, or translating text in images or simply transcribing it. Apple says it uses the intelligence of the device for this function.

Here is some more information announced by Apple that will make it easier to use your Apple devices:

• Apple redesigns Safari with a new look for tabs and tab groups.
• Siri will now be available on third-party home devices.
• You can share your health information with other members of your family.
• The SmartWatch 8 will have new Health features.
• The sound of AirPods Pro and AirPods Max will be easier to hear thanks to the “conversation boost” mode. This feature will allow you to hear conversations more clearly and eliminate ambient noise.
• you can use your iPhone as a key.
• Unfortunately there will be no new MacBook Pro with the powerful M2 processor.

Here is a small summary of all the new products presented at Apple WWDC 2021, we have certainly forgotten some of them. However, we will be able to discover them in detail when we test the new products.

As announced in November, the free service was coming to an end. From today, June 1st 2021, Google Photo will start charging you for any storage over 15GB.

Concretely what does this mean?

In short, no matter how good the photos or videos you upload to Google Photos are, they will be deducted from your Google One storage plan. If you go over 15GB, you’ll have to pay to continue uploading them.

Thus, photos and videos uploaded before today (1 June) will not count towards the 15GB limit, but only those uploaded afterwards. So you won’t suddenly find yourself having to pay for Google Photos. In addition, you will have time to decide whether or not you want to pay for Google One if you haven’t already done so.

However, if you use Google Photos a lot, it is definitely  worth paying to get at least some of the Google One storage. Google Photos is a fantastic service and it makes sense that it is not completely free.

In any case, many users may never need to pay, at least not in the near future.  It will take at least 3 years for most users to reach the limit, according to Google. Furthermore 15GB is three times more than the 5GB offered by  Apple’s iCloud.

Google Photos is linked to the Google One cloud storage ecosystem. This includes: Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.

And what is the price?

In terms of price, Google One storage is about the same as the rest of the industry. For 100 GB of storage it costs CHF 2.00 / month. 1TB costs CHF 10.00 / month and 10TB CHF 100.00 / month, according to the Google pricing guide.

You have been warned that Goole Photos may start to cost you a bit more. But then again, it is okay to spend a little money if you use a service extensively. Especially since it is a great service and well worth the money.

In private mode, Safari will not remember which pages you have browsed, nor your search history. In addition, Safari will not remember your login details. Private browsing allows you to browse anonymously.

How to activate private browsing?

When you navigate normally you will notice that the navigation buttons are in blue.

To switch to private mode, press the “tab” button.

When you open a new window (by tapping on the +),

You can now surf the web anonymously. This means that some sites will not be able to collect information about you.

Safari will not remember the pages you have viewed.

How to get out of private mode?

To return to normal navigation, simply tap the “tab” button again.

The nightmare of online life is passwords. It is impossible to remember more than a few, especially if they are complicated. Today it is imperative to have a password manager. So let’s discover Keychain, the solution offered by Apple.

What is Keychain?

Keychain is an encrypted box that securely stores your confidential information.

When you are browsing in the Mac environment (iOS and Safari) and access an email account, website or anything else that is password protected, Safari (the Mac web browser) suggests a password. In addition, it suggests that you save the password in your keychain so that you don’t have to remember it or enter it every time.

What does the app do?

The application offers strong passwords and saves them in its application. So the next time you access your account from the same browser and the same device, the Keychain application will automatically complete the password.

Where is your Keychain?

In order to find your Keychain application, you need:

• Open Spotlight (the little magnifying glass) at the top right.
• Type in Keychain
• Finally double click on the Keychain application.

How does the app work to manage passwords?

• Open the Keychain application.

• Find the desired account. You can find the account you want by doing a search. In the top right-hand corner, simply type it into the search bar. In our case, it is the Amazon account

• Select the account you are interested in by double clicking on it.

• By double clicking on the account, a new window will open. Check show password.

• By checking “show password” your system will prompt you to enter a new password. This is the one you use to log in to your Mac. For this reason, it is imperative that you have a complex password to log in to your Mac.

• Once the password has been entered, you will find the password for the account in question. Simply select it, copy it and paste it where required.

How to add notes in Keychain?

The application allows you to add secure notes, access codes, PINs etc.

• In the application under category click on “Secure notes” in the left column.

• By clicking on the small “+” sign at the top left, you create a new note.

• Just give it a name, the relevant information and simply click on add.

Immediately you will find your new note.

To access it, you just need to insert your password that allows you to access your Mac. Exactly as we have seen before.

The last thing we’re going to find out is iCloud Keychain. If you use iCloud you have the option to store your login credentials in iCloud Keychain. To do this make sure iCloud Keychain is enabled on your Mac.

• Select iCloud in the left bar.
• Scroll to the Keychain application

• Make sure that it is well selected.

Your iCloud Keychain is now activated on your Mac. So your passwords will be up to date on all your devices. (Provided they are connected to the same iCloud account).

In addition, the application on your device must also be connected to iCloud.

• You have to go into the settings.

To find my AirPods, I will need to launch the “Find My” application.

• The map will show you where and when your AirPods were last connected.

If your AirPods are not in their case

If your AirPods are not in their case, you can play a sound.

So you can track that sound and find your AirPods, which is extremely handy if you’ve left them in your jacket pocket or the next room.

You can tap right or left to find a particular AirPod.

Once found, you can press stop.

If your AirPods are in their case (or out of battery)

You will not be able to make a sound but you will receive information about their last connection.

Online shopping is very similar from one platform to another. So don’t hesitate to experiment with other e-commerce platforms.

How to choose the category in Zara online shop

In our example, we will go to kids. This automatically opens a sub-category with girls / boys / by age / etc. This sub-category allows you to target your search.

Clicking on the desired subcategory, e.g. Girls 6-14, opens a new subcategory with the different options. For example, dresses, jeans, T-Shirts, etc. Therefore, depending on your wishes you can target your purchase precisely.

Once you have chosen a sub-category (in this case a dress), the page with the complete collection of dresses opens.

You can simply scroll through the collection by scrolling down the page with your mouse.

To make your choice, click on the desired product. This opens a new window with a detailed summary of the product.

And click on the “Add to cart” button.

As a result, you will see the details of your shopping cart. You can then decide whether to continue shopping or place an order.

To continue shopping, simply click on the three small horizontal lines at the top left of the page. Exactly as we have seen before.

But this time we will do a product search using the filter.

As we have seen before, you need to choose the category and sub-category you are interested in. For example, we can choose boys 6-14 years and the category Bermuda shorts.

Once this selection is made you can use the filter.

The great advantage of the filter is that it allows you to narrow your search to size, colour, characteristics or price.

For example, if you particularly like a colour and want it in a particular size, then Zara.com will narrow the search to the chosen specifics.
